Why make a will?

Every year two out of three people die without making a will.
A will is an effective way to help the people and causes you care about.
The only way to ensure your money will go where you want it to after your death is to make a will.
By taking action now, you can best choose how your estate will benefit your family or a charity.

5 simple steps to making a will

1 Think about the people you want to benefit.
2 Work out the value of what you own
3 Choose Executors (ideally who are younger than you). Make sure you get their agreement first.
4 Think about a gift to charities. Remember it's tax efficient.
5 Choose a solicitor.

Look after your own, then think of us...
Home > Fundraising > Leave a Legacy

Naturally family, friends and all those you care about come first when you're making your will. However, once you've taken care of them, you may wish to think about leaving something to a local cause you care about too. As an independent charity we rely almost wholly on donations and legacies to do our work. We simply couldn't keep going without our local supporters, fundraisers and the generous people who remember us in their wills.

Every year more local people need our help.

Leaving us a legacy - a gift in your will – means so much because it helps us to plan ahead for those who will need our help in the future. The gift can be anything you like - not necessarily money - it can be a piece of jewellery or a collectible item for instance. No matter how small or large, every gift is valuable to us. There are so many things we could do with being remembered in your will. And here’s just a few of them...

Arrow  £600 will pay for the medication to give all our patients in the Inpatient unit a pain-free month.
Arrow  £5,000 will buy one of our specialist electrical beds. These have pressure-relieving mattresses and allow the patient to control their position for maximum ease and comfort.
Arrow  £35,000 will pay for a Community nurse to care for over 120 patients a year in their own homes, helping them make the most of their lives by supporting their choice to be cared for in a familiar environment.

Leave a Legacy

And these are just the 'things' we can buy. The emotional support, care and love your gift will bring are, of course, all priceless.

"Mum was always a great one for helping others, so it was a real comfort to her to know that, through making a legacy, she would be helping other families, even after she'd gone."

Can you help?

There are a number of different ways of making a gift to us in your will. We always recommend that you should contact a solicitor when making or changing a will, but you may find it useful to get some good, impartial and free advice at Help the Aged first.
