Another fantastic night for the Weston Hospicecare Midnight Beach Walk
All our photos from this year's event are on our Facebook page.
Over 800 excited ladies took to Uphill Beach and Weston Seafront on Saturday night for the 6th annual Weston Hospicecare Midnight Beach Walk.
An array of imaginative pink fancy dress costumes, tutus and hula skirts, hundreds of pink flashing bunny ears and glow sticks lit the beach, together with glowing candle bags with personal messages for loved ones lined the start of the walk.
Local Weston-super-Mare band, 'The Ketones', who are local doctors and nurses from Weston General Hospital, played for nearly two hours before Event Organiser Olly Joseph and Chief Executive Gill Auden took to the stage to say a few words.
Olly commented "A massive thank you to over 70 volunteers who have helped with this whole event, your time and dedication is so appreciated. We really couldn't run our events without you. As you may know, Weston Hospicecare has been supporting local people with life-limiting illnesses for over 20 years. We're here to help those living with a diagnosis of an illness like cancer, to offer relief from pain, support at the journey's end - and to help people smile against all the odds. Thanks to the incredible support of the local community, we manage to help so many people and families across the region. Together, we've been able to provide what one patient called a "little slice of heaven".
As everyone gathered together for a minute's silence, people reflected on personal happy memories of their loved ones. Local gym instructor 'Sizzle Summerall' then took to the stage to warm up the chilly toes and get the blood pumping and at midnight the sea of pink dispersed along the beach towards the Grand Pier.
It seemed no time at all before flashing bunny ears could be seen in the distance and heading back towards Uphill and within 45 minutes the first ladies crossed the finished line.
Thank you to all the ladies, girls, mothers, aunties and Grandmothers who make this event so fantastic. Our walkers have done an incredible amount for us again this year helping make the event what it is, and of course thank you to all the companies and local businesses who have supported the Hospice and in particular the Midnight Beach Walk including our sponsors Howards.
Next year's date will be Saturday 8th September 2012 at 8pm (due to high tides all this month), we hope to see you all again and if you sign up before 31st March 2012 and you can get to walk next year for the same price as this year. Get your name down and call the fundraising team on 01934 423960.
