Midnight Saturday 12th September 2009
Over 800 women registered to take part in this year's Midnight Beach Walk. On Saturday 12th September
at Uphill beach, at the stroke of midnight women walked out between the Candle of Dedication Bags
along the beach towards Knightstone Island.
At Knightstone Island they received their chocolate and then walked back along the beach to Uphill
for their well deserved medal and goody bag. Once again we were incredibly lucky with the weather,
which remained dry throughout.
The atmosphere was fantastic which was helped by the hit local band The Orphans, a Juggler, and all
the Candle of Dedication bags that lit the start of the walk and went along the beach a fair way.
Although we didn't have quite the numbers from previous years we are hoping that the event will
raise about £80,000 for the charity and we urge people to hand in their sponsorship as soon as possible.
A big thank you to EVERYONE who took part and also to the following people and businesses that
made the event possible.
Our sponsors - The Howards Group and The Weston Mercury.
And also... The Orphans, Star FM, Steve Berry, Wessex 4 x 4 Response, The Weston Rotary,
The Weston Lions, CS Medical Services, The Rangers @ North Somerset Council, Avon and
Somerset Police, Sainsburys, Esporta, Uphill Cricket Club and all our volunteers.
As well as the event being a great day out, it crucially plays a big part in raising funds for
Weston Hospicecare. The Hospice's running costs are around £2.7 million and it receives about
20% in government funding. Therefore, events such as the Midnight Beach Walk play a vital role
in raising funds and we ask that you send in your sponsorship money and form ASAP to
Weston Hospicecare, 28 Thornbury Road, Uphill,
Weston super Mare, N Somerset, BS23 4YQ.
Many thanks for your support and well done - see you all next year.
