Wow, what a day! The berry best cycling event of the year!

Thank you to all the participants and all our fantastic volunteers who made Sunday 14 August 2011 such a great success! The atmosphere was incredible, with everyone entering into the spirit of the ride and for sharing some wonderful stories of personal bests and triumphs.

The weather the day turned out gloriously and saw, not only the registered 95 riders take part, but a further 20 register on the day too!

All ages and all abilities took to North Somerset, on and off the road, choosing from one of six routes, and riding out to raise money for Weston Hospicecare.

We are delighted to say early indications show we are set to raise many thousands as a result of your fantastic efforts. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and were not too tired afterwards.

Weston Hospicecare is here to add quality to lives and support both individuals and families who are facing a terminal illness. Our hope is that we can improve the quality of our patients' lives and enhance their level of comfort towards the end of their lives. We do this by providing free specialist care, including symptom control, providing psychological and spiritual support and giving comprehensive nursing care in the familiar surroundings of their home or here at the Hospice depending on their wishes.

Thank you once again for taking part! You can put your feet up, have a cup of tea and we look forward to welcoming you back again next year.

Remember, early sign up for 2012 is already open (Sunday 5th August 2012), so call 01934 423960 to take advantage of our early bird prices (until 31st December 2011).

The Berry Best cycle ride!

Be a part of something truly special. Take part in our freshest and most vibrant event, as you take to two wheels and become ... The Strawberry Jam!

If you’ve ever been on a Weston Hospicecare event you’ll know we pride ourselves on organising days that are truly spectacular for our participants. Days to remember, days to look back and smile on, and days where you can make a very real difference to the lives of the 1,300 local people we’ll help this year.

Where do I ride?

All riders will start at Yatton Train Station (on the Strawberry Line) at different times (staggered throughout the day), and ride along the gorgeous Strawberry Line trail, snaking through the fields and pathways of North Somerset until you reach the picturesque village of Cheddar (which marks the end of the 10 mile route).

NEW for 2011: new routes, new (additional) checkpoints and new start times (please check back soon for more details) You are advised to plan how you will get yourself (and your bike) back to where you have parked – you may for example choose to be dropped off for the start or park half way down the course. Due to budget and insurance we are unable to offer lifts back to the start for all riders, however at discretion and if logistics allow we may be able to help with a van/minibus lift back for some riders.

Where does the money go?

This year we aim to help more patients than ever – patients with increasingly complex conditions, which demand more intensive care and one to one attention. This care is free to all our patients but as you would expect, it is costly – we need to raise nearly £3m this year – and can only do it with your help.

Please remember it does not matter how much you raise!

If we can reach our £5,000 target we can pay for a number of costs to be met, costs such as Community Nurses, Therapists, In- Patient Unit nurses (and doctors), beds, Day Hospice sessions and so much more. So once again, please get involved, get registered, get sponsored and get riding – We promise you will have an unforgettable day out!
