A nine-year-old girl ‘with a heart of gold’ has made a remarkable contribution to Weston Hospicecare by shaving her head to raise much-needed funds.

Madison Olivia Gillett – who goes by the name ‘Mog’ in reference to her initials – said farewell to her long locks in a sponsored shave last week.

And the brave Mendip Green Primary School pupil smashed her original fundraising target of £90 by raising an amazing total of £765.

Mog has even managed to help a second charity too, after Headlines hair salon in Worle – which carried out the shave for free – sent her hair off to the Little Princess Trust to be made into a wig for a young cancer patient.

After the shave, Mog used her JustGiving page to thank sponsors and supporters.

She said: “Well, the ‘big shave’ has been done! Huge thanks to Headlines in Worle for doing it and of course to each and every one of you for your kind donations.

“I am so grateful for all the support, this is the most money I have ever raised in my life.

“A big thanks to the best sister in the world, she is so nice and I couldn’t ask for more. And big thanks to Mum and Dad who have been really amazing help.”

And the youngster’s mum Lydia paid tribute to the selfless actions of her daughter.

Lydia said: “She has got a heart of gold and wants to help anyone she can in any way she can.

“She came up with the idea all by herself.”

Mog has visited Jackson-Barstow House to see firsthand how her money will be used to support people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

And community fundraiser Rachel Mansfield said: “Mog has shown compassion and generosity of spirit beyond her years in making a truly remarkable gesture in support of Weston Hospicecare.

“We could not be more grateful to her for her bravery in raising a fabulous amount of money on our behalf – well done MOG, and thank you from all of us at Weston Hospicecare for supporting our efforts to care for local people.”

Donations can still be made to Madison’s fund by visiting her JustGiving page.

    Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Weston Hospicecare to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Weston Hospicecare we can claim back 25p from the government.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Weston Hospicecare to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Weston Hospicecare will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

    What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Weston Hospicecare receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
