Hundreds of people who attended an open garden run by a Weston manufacturing firm have helped to raise in excess of £2,000 for Weston Hospicecare.
Clifton Food Range, based in Oldmixon Crescent, invited the public to enjoy its glorious gardens, complete with water feature, beehives, floral displays and vegetable patch, on July 8.
The team at Clifton Food Range worked hard to make the day a success by ensuring the garden, which sits nestled away behind the working factory, was looking its best ready for the big day. Staff were also busy baking cakes in the run-up to the Sunday afternoon event.
Bright sunshine on the day helped add to the atmosphere as around 250 people gathered together in the Clifton garden for an afternoon of tea, homemade cake, a raffle, book stalls and homemade gifts.
A raffle supported by the likes of Thatchers Cider, Bombay Sapphire, Exeter Cookery School and Exeter Chiefs Rugby raised more than £700, while local and national firms such as Beams and Brackets Steel Fabricators, Jelf, The Channel Partnership and Ascot Group all made donations to contribute towards the final total of £2,024.03.
Clifton Food Range managing director Melvin Dickson said: “Our open garden day in support of Weston Hospicecare was a huge success.
“We had in the region of 250 visitors to our secret garden on the industrial estate and we are all thrilled that we have managed to raise over £2,000 for this very worthy cause.
“I would like to thank everyone who gave so generously beforehand and on the day itself. A big thank you to those companies that donated some fantastic raffle prizes and to my team here at Clifton, along with volunteers from the hospice, for making the event such a successful one.”
The money raised by Clifton Food Range will be used to help Weston Hospicecare meet the needs of the hundreds of patients it supports across the Weston-super-Mare community and beyond.
The charity’s fundraising director Alison Sopp said: “We’re enormously grateful to Clifton Food Range for organising such a terrific event on our behalf.
“We very much enjoyed the chance to explore the wonderful Clifton garden, and were thrilled to see so many other people taking the opportunity too. It is a real oasis of calm in such an unlikely setting, and provided a beautiful setting for a really successful event.
“Our thanks go to everyone involved in organising and supporting the event, and to everyone who attended. Your support for Weston Hospicecare is very much appreciated.”
