Could you be a Hospice Hero in 2018?
In our continuing Hospice Heroes series, we meet Jacqui Elmer, who took on a massive challenge to raise money for Weston Hospicecare as a way of thanking us for the care we provided for her parents during their illnesses.
Having just turned 60, while most of us might think about putting our feet up, Jacqui decided to test herself both physically and mentally by climbing the three tallest peaks in the U.K; Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon earlier this year.
Jacqui says: “Ben Nevis was completed in horrendous weather conditions – rain, sleet, hail, fog and snow. Then we went on to Scafell Pike, where it was seventy degrees; quite a bizarre difference. We couldn’t complete Snowdon the same day so we finally got to do it on Saturday 16th September. It was amazing.
Raising money for Weston Hospicecare is so important to me; they cared for my mum, Irene Chilcott and Dad, Mervyn Chilcott in their final weeks. The care was amazing for my parents and also us as a grieving family. I am happy to say I raised £815!”
Weston Hospicecare are always looking for those who are willing to tackle an extreme challenge to raise money for us. Whatever your motive, if you have the drive and determination, we’d love to hear from you! We have a wide range of extreme challenges on offer; from skydives to caving, from cycling around California to trekking the Great Wall of China, there really is something for everyone.
Challenge events not only raise money; they also push you outside of your comfort zone, both physically and mentally. This huge feat of endurance- whatever type of challenge you choose- gives an enormous sense of achievement.
