Two Weston Hospicecare receptionists have signed up to tackle the 30-mile Mendip Challenge route next Sunday (2 June).

Amanda Cook and Louise Perfitt work with volunteers on reception at the charity’s Uphill base Jackson-Barstow House.

They say they want to help raise money to support the compassionate care they witness each day.

They said: “We see how well people in North Somerset and Sedgemoor are cared for. Not only patients but for their families too.

“We wanted to do something totally bonkers to raise money for the hospice to help do our part in helping this fantastic charity support the care it gives to those in need for free.

“So we’ve both signed up to take part in the 30-mile route of the Mendip Challenge on Sunday 2 June and we can’t wait to complete it.”

The Mendip Challenge is Weston Hospicecare’s flagship fundraising event and more than 1,100 people have now signed up to take part ahead of the online registration deadline this Sunday.

The event gives participants a chance to walk or run either 30, 20 or 10 miles across the Mendip Hills in support of the hospice.

However, spaces are now only available for the 30 and 20-mile route, after unprecedented demand for places. Entry cost £15 per adult and £10 per child and this price includes transport to each start point, souvenir medal and branded water bottle, and entry to the after-party at event HQ, which will be based at Weston Cricket Club, where they will be live music. There will also be an option to buy food and drink on-site.

You can join Amanda and Louise in taking on the Mendip Challenge’s 30 or 20-mile route by registering here.

You can also support Amanda’s and Louise’s fundraising efforts by donating here.

    Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Weston Hospicecare to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Weston Hospicecare we can claim back 25p from the government.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Weston Hospicecare to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Weston Hospicecare will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

    What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Weston Hospicecare receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
