Fundraising for Weston Hospicecare can come in all forms. Recently, Sue Bushnell took on the challenge of cycling from London to Edinburgh and back again! The nearly 900 mile journey is enough of a challenge in itself, but Sue completed the whole trip in just 115 hours, with only 8 hours of sleep across the five days. During the ride, Sue experienced a wide range of weather conditions, as she explains:
“On Sunday 30th of July at 13:15 pm I was on the start line of London Edinburgh London, and so the journey began. Over the next five days I cycled just short of nine hundred miles in one hundred and fifteen hours, which was two hours within the time limit. I endured rain, strong headwind, freezing conditions over Scottish mountains, severe knee pain and only manage to get eight hours sleep during the whole five days to make sure I was back in London in the time limit.”
Sue’s grit and determination resulted in her raising almost £1500 for Weston Hospicecare, which will go a long way to helping us continue the work we do. Only 22% of our total running costs are funded by the NHS. The remaining £3.22 million is raised each year thanks to people like Sue, who are willing to go the extra mile (literally), to raise those vital extra funds, as well as those who support our events, take part in our lottery, or make use of our network of Weston Hospicecare shops.
Are you up for an adventure? Why not consider taking on an extreme challenge to raise money for Weston Hospicecare? Whether it’s a mammoth bike ride, like Sue, a tandem skydive, running a marathon or more, we are always keen to hear from those willing to take on such events. You might even consider joining us for the 2018 Ride London event.
