More than 200 cyclists registered to take part in the Wedmore 40:30 charity ride to raise money for Weston Hospicecare and St Mary’s Church.
The bikers chose from a series of scenic but challenging routes, which were mapped out across the Somerset levels, including a 12, 30, 40 or 70-mile option for cyclists to tackle.
The event took place on Sunday 16 June – Father’s Day, meaning plenty of children and families were among the riders – and raised more than £5,000 on behalf of the two charities; a sum which organisers are delighted with.
Volunteer co-organiser John Ford said: “212 people registered, there was hardly a drop of rain and lots of families took part.

“We’ve raised a splendid amount of money for our beneficiaries and the marvellous, and brand new, Post and Wicket pavilion proved to be a great base for the event.”
The event was being held for the second time after a successful and, much like the inaugural event in 2018, relied on the support of the people of Wedmore and the surrounding villages to make it a success.

Weston Hospicecare received £2,238.85 through sponsorship and donations made by organisers and participants taking part.
Hospice challenge manager Simon Angear said: “We were delighted to see the Wedmore 40:30 event enjoy such a successful event this year, with participant numbers increased substantially on last year.
“Huge thanks to everyone who took part, donated to the hospice or raised sponsorship – we hope you all had a fabulous day.”
