On Tuesday, 18 July, hospice staff and shop visitors joined together for a party to celebrate the rebranding of our Burnham-on-Sea shop in College Street into a £1 shop.
The store, which sells sells clothes, DVDs, books and a host of other items, now sells all of its products for £1 or less. All of the proceeds from the shop go toward funding the vital social, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical care that Weston Hospicecare provide to patients and their loved ones.
As the first Weston Hospicecare shop in Burnham-on-Sea to turn into a £1 store, the hospice said that it’s so far received very positive reactions from visitors and supporters with the shop.
‘The staff and volunteers at the store have been really excited about the changes and have all been working really hard to get the store kitted out, ready for customers to enjoy,’ said Sue Picken, manager of the Burnham-on-Sea shop. ‘Lots more people have been coming in and have been picking up handfuls of stock and have really been enjoying the new layout of the store.’
The hospice relies on volunteers to keep its shops open, and that’s no different for the Burnham-on-Sea shop.
‘At the moment, we have 14 volunteers at the store and all of them have been working so hard along with the staff to make this rebrand possible,’ said Sue. ‘It would be really lovely to see more volunteers coming into the store as the reaction we have had so far has been really positive. We are excited to see what the future holds.’
