Sarah Duckett is giving herself a challenge to run her first 5K in memory of her mother, Lynn Peacock from Wedmore, who was cared for by Weston Hospicecare before she died in June last year. Mum-of-two Sarah was the first person to sign up for the hospice’s Bubble Rush, which she will tackle on Saturday, 5 August in Apex Park, Burnham-on-Sea.
NatWest Bank employee Sarah, who is based in the Burnham branch, said, “My mum was my best friend; we did everything together, and losing her to cancer has been the hardest thing I have had to go through. While she was ill, she spent nearly two months in Weston Hospicecare, and they were so lovely there. I visited her six or seven days a week and always took one, if not both, of my children. The staff were so helpful and kind, they would help with anything.”
Sarah has been training to get ready for the run and she said, “I’m not someone who has ever run before, and anyone who knows me knows I’m the worst person for running, as I love being lazy! But I have taken on the challenge to run 5K, as I know my mum would have been proud.”
Weston Hospicecare’s Bubble Rush takes place on Saturday, 5 August in Apex Park, Burnham-on-Sea and is open to all ages. Participants don’t have to run, but can also walk, dance or toddle their way through a sea of coloured bubbles.
John Bailey, Director of Patient Services at the hospice said, “These events are so important to us, as they give everyone the opportunity to have fun and to raise vital funds at the same time so that we can continue to support our patients and their families when they need us the most.”
