Tech to be added at the Mendip challenge as Weston Hospicecare partner with Event Chip Timing.
Event Chip Timing are best known for providing chip timing technology. They have worked with the organisers of St Alban’s Half Marathon and Luton Half Marathon.
Participants will use the technology to measure their times and track locations (Available only to event staff and volunteers) for the challenge on Sunday 12 June.
How does it work?
Within the event participant numbers is a tracking chip which, when passing through scanning areas such as a starting mat, check points or the finish line, will ping data such as the participants position and current active time. For live tracking, the participant numbers also share the live location via GPS to Weston Hospicecare staff and volunteers.
At the finish line will be a live video feed. Supporters can look out for people they know taking part. They will be an automatic number recognition camera at the finish line. This will trigger the end times for participants and make their event certificates available online.
For this reason, it is imperative that participants affix their number to the front of their tops as instructed at registration.
Why is it a good addition to the Mendip Challenge?
The added tech to the event is not only good for participants and their supporters to track timings. But it also ensures the hospice and safety partners keep track of where their participants are more accurately.
