An elderly gentleman from West Sussex has received a counterfeit communication posing as the hospice.
The man received a text message supposedly from Royal Mail. It described that they had medication for an “Ella from Weston Hospicecare”.
The gentleman called the number provided and was warned it would cost him £9 per minute to stay on the line and so the man ended the call. It was reported to our clinical team this morning after the gentleman searched for our telephone number online.
He reported it as he was extremely concerned someone would not be getting their much-needed medication and contacted the clinical team this morning to warn us.
Weston Hospicecare never use a postal service, such as the Royal Mail, and will make personalised arrangements for medication delivery.
Please share this with everyone you know who has had any contact with the hospice at all and remember;
- You can contact us by telephone by calling 01934 423900
- You can contact us by email via info@westonhospicecare.org.uk
- Weston Hospicecare would never send medication via the post without prior consent and warning.
- Please ignore any communication from any suspected spam messages in any form posing as the hospice. You may wish to report them to your local police cyber crime unit.
We’d like to thank the gentleman for bringing this matter to our attention.
