In April 2022, colleagues and residents at Towans Residential Care Home were rocked by the death of a co-worker and carer.
Vicky, a former carer at Towans Residential Care Home, was given end of life care at Weston Hospicecare’s inpatient unit during spring 2022 before her death.
Described as a “gentle and quiet soul”, Vicky had an impact on everyone she met.
A combination of her death and the care given to her by the hospice inspired carers and residents at the Towans Residential Care Home to get fundraising.
The Towans Team completed two sponsored walks on the beach at Burnham and Berrow, while one resident Leslie completed a sponsored silence.
Together they raised £4,922 for Weston Hospicecare in memory of Vicky and in recognition of her care.

Here is Leslie, he took part in a sponsored silence instead of taking part in the walk.
Beth Fieldhouse, Senior, Towans Residential Care Home says “Vicky was admitted as an inpatient at Weston Hospicecare and it was quite evident that she was too poorly to return home.
“Everyone here at Towans has embraced this challenge to give something back to the hospice for the amazing care given to Vicky.
“She was so proud we were doing it and it meant so much for us to come together to do something for Vicky in recognition of the amazing care she received.
“She was incredibly important to all of us and was a very gentle and quiet soul who had such an impact on everyone.
“We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We will always remember this and the care Weston Hospicecare gave.
“We’re already planning the next challenge to raise vital funds for the hospice in memory of Vicky.”
Weston Hospicecare cares for people with a life-limiting illness across North Somerset from Clevedon, Congresbury, Winscombe, Cheddar, Burnham, Weston-super-Mare and everywhere in between.

Team Towans raise £4,922 for Weston Hospicecare.
The hospice cares for 1000s of people each year and it costs £4.5million a year to run the charity annually.
Only 20% of its funding comes from the NHS via the Somerset CCG meaning 80% (£3.6million) must be raised by other sources such as fundraising and revenue generated in charity shops.
Weston Hospicecare is so grateful to everyone at Towans Residential Care Home and wishes them well with future fundraising endeavours.
