The Big Virtual Cycle

May 22, 2020 @ 11:00 am - August 31, 2020 @ 10:30 pm

The Big Virtual Cycle is a fundraising event for Weston Hospicecare that allows you to cycle a specific distance across 30 consecutive days between 22 May and 31 August 2020.

You can do your challenge your way, whether it’s all in one go or little and often. You set your goals, you decide your pace and you get to show your support for the hospice’s vital work.

We wanted to allow everyone from families and beginners to advanced cyclists to get involved and so there are two sets of distances to choose from:

GOLD: 75 miles (weekly distance 17.5 miles)
SILVER: 50 miles (weekly distance 12 miles)
BRONZE: 30 miles (weekly 7 miles)
GOLD: 600 miles (weekly distance (weekly distance 140 miles)
SILVER: 400 miles (weekly distance 95 miles)
BRONZE: 200 miles (weekly distance 50 miles)

What does it include?

  • Exclusive finisher medal after the event ends
  • Improve or maintain your physical and mental health
  • You will be part of The Big Virtual Cycle community through a dedicated Facebook group
  • Regular updates and full support from our events fundraising team

How do I prove it?

You can use a range of phone apps or exercise watches to track your cycle distance over the 30 days. All you need to do is send a screenshot of your final distance to us at the end to receive your medal.

It doesn’t matter how you complete your cycle challenge over the 30 days, showing your solidarity and raising much-needed funds for the hospice is the most important thing. Joining The Big Virtual Cycle team and raising money will make a massive difference and means so much to us all at Weston Hospicecare.

How do I start?

It costs £5 to sign up or £10 for a family, and registration is open! Sign up by clicking here.

Joining The Big Virtual Cycle team and raising money will make a massive difference and means so much to us all at Weston Hospicecare as we continue to deliver vital care across Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset and Sedgemoor in incredibly challenging times.

    Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Weston Hospicecare to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Weston Hospicecare we can claim back 25p from the government.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Weston Hospicecare to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Weston Hospicecare will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

    What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Weston Hospicecare receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
