The Mendip Challenge is back with a bang for 2021 and we can’t wait to see you there on the day!
On Sunday 6 June 2021, hundreds of you will hit the Mendip Hills in a safe and socially distanced way, spread over four distanced walks. New for this year we have a brand new five mile route that would be perfect for families to join in on the fun.
Embrace the great countryside that awaits you and challenge yourself to break the limits!
We can’t wait to see you all again, so lace up those walking boots, pack your backpack and get ready to hike the hills for Weston Hospicecare.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE COST

5 MILES – staggered registration 12-3pm:
From event HQ you will head up to the Old Church of St Nicholas for incredible views across Weston, Uphill and Somerset. You will then head back down and follow the path up to Bleadon Levels Nature Reserve, before looping back to HQ through Uphill.
10 MILES – staggered registration 10am-3pm:
Starting at event HQ you will enter the Mendips very quickly, ascending up into the hills and across to Hutton and Bleadon Cavern. Passing through many fields and met with exceptional views across Somerset all the way to Glastonbury Tor, this 10 mile hike will not disappoint, you will loop round and head back to Uphill, before receiving you well-earned medal at HQ. NB. No coaches will be used for this route.
20 MILES – registration 8-9am:
Coach to Draycott, starting with a steep incline to join the West Mendip Way, snaking your way through the outstanding beauty of the Mendips back to event HQ to claim your medal!
30 MILES – registration 6-7am:
Coach to Wells and follow the West Mendip Way through some of the most beautiful countryside. You will pass through Wookey Hole, Cheddar, Crook’s Peak whilst heading back to event HQ on a spectacular 30 mile hike.
Please note, for the longer hikes you must be able to confidently walk 20 minute miles throughout and be able to hike up and down steep slopes across rough terrain. Proper training must be undertaken in the months running up to the event to ensure you can complete the 30 mile route in 10hrs and the 20 miles in under 7hrs and to avoid any long distance walking injuries. This is a tough, but very rewarding challenge!
NB: the cut off time for the event is 8pm. You must have finished your hike by that time.
