The family room within our In-patient unit was refurbished with an aim to create a ‘home from home’ atmosphere for our patients without the inevitable clinical feel of the In-patient Unit.
The room provides a space for patients to spend time with their families, for example, playing games, table top gardening and sharing the traditional Sunday roast dinner. During the summer months, the room has direct access to the garden where patients and their families can enjoy a barbeque, whilst enjoying the natural environment around them. The room has been designed for patients, who either have mobility difficulties or are bed bound, to be able to access both the family room and connected garden. The Family Room provides an element of ‘normality’ to patients and their families during a period of inevitable uncertainty and anxiety.
