Today is International Pride day, and it also marks 50 years since the first Pride march.
Whilst there have been historic breakthroughs for LGBTQ+ rights in this country, from equal marriage to legal protections against discrimination, as long as it continues to take enormous courage for people to come out openly then of course there is much more to be done.
We hope you would agree that Weston Hospicecare is a supportive employer to everyone, and find no place in our hospice for discrimination of any kind. On this historic day we ‘Take Pride’ and celebrate our LGBTQ+ colleagues, volunteers, patients and supporters.
We are pleased to see that Weston Pride returns this weekend after the Covid-enforced hiatus, and our Community Fundraising Team will be there to support the event.
Personally, I hope the mantra ‘live and let live’ and a willingness to embrace personal differences will become more and more the norm for all of us in the UK and beyond. We are proud of our LGBTQ+ colleagues today, as we are every day.
