Nurse and daughter begin ‘share the heart’ initiative to bring comfort to patients and their families
A Weston Hospicecare nurse and her daughter have started a ‘share the heart’ initiative to make patients and their loved ones feel more connected.
Identical crochet hearts are given to Weston Hospicecare patients and their families to bring comfort in a time where it has been necessary to stay apart.
Hospice Nurse, Lisa Dorgan, and her daughter began the heart-warming idea last year and have since been supported by the community to knit more hearts.
Lisa says “This is such a simple idea but one which already has provided a lot of comfort to patients and their families.
“I’ve had one occasion where we were able to give identical hearts to a patient and each one of their six grandchildren, it was so heart-warming to see and I know the grandchildren will remember it forever.”
To help Lisa keep the initiative going, supporters are invited to create their own hearts and donate them to the hospice by dropping them off at Jackson-Barstow House in Uphill.
Lisa continues “As a community, we’ve already been able to make a massive difference to people’s lives.
“I have been absolutely blown away by the help of our incredible community with this so far, and I’d like to thank everyone who hears about this and starts helping too!”
There are no set patterns with supporters encouraged to bring forward their own unique hearts.
As this story illustrates, Weston Hospicecare always aims to enhance quality of life, stay person-centred and cherish the invaluable support of its incredible community.
