Light Up a Life

“St Paul’s looks beautiful, lit up with all the dedication lanterns for Light Up A Life. This very special evening of carols and remembrance offers families a unique way to remember the life of a loved one and to join with hundreds of others who want to share a special message for someone they love. Christmas can be a very difficult time for those who are bereaved, but Light Up A Life helps them keep the person close at this special time of year.”

– Karen Murphy, Chaplain at Weston Hospicecare

Christmas is a hard time for those missing a loved one. Their absence will be keenly felt, whether the loss was recent or several years ago. Taking part in our annual Light Up A Life appeal is a very special way to remember the life of someone close to you at Christmas whilst helping to provide care for another family facing the most difficult of times.

There are three main ways to show support throughout the appeal – Light a Lantern in dedication to a loved one, make an entry in the Book of Remembrance, or simply make a donation to help the hospice continue providing care and support to people and their families.

On Monday 10th December 2018 there will be two services to commemorate those who are special to us, at 3.30pm and 7.30pm in St. Paul’s Church in Weston-super-Mare. During the services, our chaplain, nurses and volunteers will read out the names of the dedicated lanterns representing those who are no longer with us. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to come forward and light a candle as the name of their loved one is read out.

For further information about the appeal and how you can get involved please call 01934 423960 or pick up a leaflet from any of our shops and at Jackson-Barstow House in Uphill.

Lanterns on display, St Paul's Church
  • Light a lantern for your loved one
On Monday 10th December we will hold a moving remembrance ceremony, where we share moments of reflection in the company of other local families who have been through a similar experience. Music and readings create quiet moments of reflection in the light of an array of coloured lanterns, each one representing a loved and much-missed special person.

Book of Remembrance, our chapel
  • Write a dedication in the Book of Remembrance
A special Light Up A Life Book of Remembrance, which will carry personal dedications from friends and relatives, will be displayed in the hospice chapel and online. The Book of Remembrance will be updated weekly and available to view from Thursday 15th November, both online and in the hospice chapel in Uphill.

St Paul's Church
  • Make a donation to help us be there for our patients and families this Christmas
We believe passionately that hospice care should be there, free of charge, for whoever needs us, whenever they need us. In the darkest times, we offer compassion and companionship. We welcome donations to the Light Up A Life appeal to continue being there for local families who need us.
