Light Up a Life

“St Paul’s looks beautiful, lit up with all the dedication lanterns for Light Up A Life. This very special evening of carols and remembrance offers families a unique way to remember the life of a loved one and to join with hundreds of others who want to share a special message for someone they love. Christmas can be a very difficult time for those who are bereaved, but Light Up A Life helps them keep the person close at this special time of year.”

– Karen Murphy, Chaplain at Weston Hospicecare

Christmas is a hard time for those missing a loved one. Their absence will be keenly felt, whether the loss was recent or several years ago. Taking part in our annual Light Up A Life appeal is a very special way to remember the life of someone close to you at Christmas whilst helping to provide care for another family facing the most difficult of times.

This year Weston Hospicecare will host a total of three services. The first two will take place in Weston at St Paul’s Church near Clarence Park on Monday 9th December and a third at Burnham-on-Sea’s Methodist Church on Wednesday 11th December, starting at 7pm.

The first service in Weston will start at 3.30pm and the second will follow at 7.30pm.

Lanterns on display, St Paul's Church
  • Light a lantern for your loved one
In December we will hold a moving remembrance ceremony, where we share moments of reflection in the company of other local families who have been through a similar experience. Music and readings create quiet moments of reflection in the light of an array of coloured lanterns, each one representing a loved and much-missed special person.

Book of Remembrance, our chapel
  • Write a dedication in the Book of Remembrance
A special Light Up A Life Book of Remembrance, which carries personal dedications from friends and relatives, will be displayed in the hospice chapel and online throughout November and December 2019. It can now be viewed online by clicking here.

  • Make a donation to help us be there for our patients and families this Christmas
We believe passionately that hospice care should be there, free of charge, for whoever needs us, whenever they need us. In the darkest times, we offer compassion and companionship. We welcome donations to the Light Up A Life appeal to continue being there for local families who need us.
