We are developing our counselling services for children with support of funding from Trusts and Foundations.
Our children and young person’s counsellor:
- has delivered 102 counselling hours to 23 children, which has averaged approximately four and a half hours each, within the first 12 months.
- Developed a bereavement training package to be delivered to schools, education groups, youth organisations & other local charities working with young children. Four sessions have taken place over the past year. Our aim is to train school’s pastoral teams to identify and support bereaved children independently. As well as bolster our local communities with the right type of support for children and young people who are bereaved or facing bereavement.
Youth transition pathway –
- Created an innovative youth transition pathway in partnership with Children’s Hospice South West, previously no pathway has existed.
- The pathway will enable children with life limiting conditions, age 18, to transition from Children’s Hospice South West to Weston Hospicecare (an adult setting).
- Late diagnosis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and medical advances, means that individuals with life limiting illnesses are living longer than anticipated. Resulting in an increasing number of individuals who can benefit from this new initiative.
- Children aged 14 and their families will have the opportunity to build a trusting relationship with the Hospice prior to transitioning, via online video calls and/or meetings plus complementary therapies and psychology support for parents
- Bereavement support will be made available to siblings of children transitioning.
