Brenda was admired as a compassionate, cheerful, and ‘wonderful woman’ by all who knew her. She was a daughter, a mother, and a wife to her loving husband Richard for 63 delightful years. Brenda, a talented and musical lady, found much joy in singing, winning multiple awards in her youth for solo and quartet performances.
Wherever life took Brenda, from Birmingham to Cambridge to Liverpool, she ‘spared no effort in ensuring success’ in all her endeavours. She formed local choirs, ran a Women’s Guild, and founded a community Dyslexia Association – all testaments to the ‘love, kindness, and support that defined her’.
In 1986, three years before Weston Hospicecare was established, Brenda moved to Weston-super-Mare. Unbeknownst to her, she would lean on the support of our hospice later in her life when she was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis), which she ‘accepted with grace and fortitude’, and bravely battled for over 30 years.
To honour his wife after her death in 2023, Richard wanted Brenda to be remembered as the kind-hearted and positive person she was, while also benefiting Weston Hospicecare for the care shown to him and the family. That’s when Richard decided to dedicate a leaf on the Hospice’s Memory Tree to Brenda as a lasting tribute:
“The tree looks very beautiful with so many leaves, each with loving messages. My daughter and I shall make frequent visits; our loving memory will always be with us.”
Our memory tree, situated in our hospice, is a special place for loved ones like Richard to remember those in our hearts who received care at the hospice. Anyone can visit the memory tree at any time.
Leaves are offered for a monthly donation of £10 for a minimum of 12 months. After that, donations can be cancelled at any time.
