A group of 29 dedicated individuals have broken a Guiness World Record attempt at @Worle gym in aid of Weston Hospicecare.
On November 11th and 12th 2023, a group of 29 local people displayed incredible endurance and dedication to complete over 31 hours of non-stop spinning at @Worle gym in Weston-super-Mare. The extraordinary feat was accomplished to raise funds for Weston Hospicecare, a local charity that provides free care and support to those with life-limiting illnesses within the local community.
Organised by Paul Magor and the @Worle team, closely supported by Weston Hospicecare, the attempt saw the Guiness World Record for ‘Longest Static Cycling Class’ broken, with the previous record standing at 31 hours and 4 minutes. @Worle gym instructor Susan and her class attendees cycled on static bikes for a consecutive 31 hours and 34 minutes, raising over £35,000 in the process.
Paul Magor, Vice Chairman at @Worle and challenge participant said: “The world record attempt was nothing short of amazing. Everyone who helped and took part in this incredible journey played a crucial role in our success. The hard work, dedication, and countless hours of training it took to achieve this goal cannot be overstated. Finally achieving the world record makes all the effort and perseverance worthwhile. Together, we made history!”
The event aimed to not only set a new world record but also to raise awareness and funds for Weston Hospicecare, a charity that relies on the support of the local community to be able to provide its vital services.
Rachael Amos, Events and Challenges Officer at Weston Hospicecare shared: “Wow, it’s amazing to have now been officially awarded this Guinness World Record! Thank you so much to the team of brilliant individuals that took on this challenge last year in aid of Weston Hospicecare who raised a fantastic £35,615.32.”
An event to celebrate the achievement will be held at @Worle gym on Friday 12th July from 7pm. Participants will be awarded their official Guiness World Record holder certificates, and the Weston Hospicecare team will be on hand to talk about the difference their support makes.
