This year, marathon runner Danny Street is set to complete the Tokyo, Paris, London, and Chicago marathons all in support of North Somerset-based Weston Hospicecare.
Danny is part of a team of directors at local motor company Howards Motor Group, that are supporting Weston Hospicecare. He has been running since 2015 when he completed his very first half marathon and has not looked back.
Danny has since completed an impressive number of 28 marathons to total and achieved his 4-star medal. This accomplishment is awarded to those who have completed four of the six major marathon races across the globe.
The charity Danny will be supporting, Weston Hospicecare provides free-of-charge palliative care across the region. During the London Marathon, he will also be joined by runners Darran Griffiths, Mary Thomas, Nicky Baker, James Tonkin, and Corrine Priest. These runners will also be raising funds for the local charity.
Supporting a cause that is so important to the local community was instrumental in the decisions made by all runners to raise funds for the hospice. Understanding and seeing what the hospice provides has been a key motivator as they train for the upcoming marathon and endeavour to raise more awareness overall.
After completing the London Marathon, Danny Street will be looking ahead to claim a 5-star medal after finishing the Chicago Marathon in October. The ultimate goal of achieving the 6-star medal is something Danny has always aspired to complete, and he aims to accomplish this by finishing the Boston Marathon in April 2025. This will be the culmination of 10 years of running and travelling around the world completing the most prestigious runs possible.
Ahead of the upcoming marathon, Danny Street said, “The hospice, but more importantly, the staff that care for people in need, provide something we may all need in the future. In our daily lives, we all get caught up in believing everything is forever, and in situations where life throws up something we didn’t consider could happen to us; the hospice is there to provide vital care and support for those in a time of need.
“For patients and their families, this is a lifeline during the most difficult periods in many people’s lives. This is why the Howards Motor Group team and I have committed to raising funds to support such an impactful organisation.”
Commenting further on the upcoming event, Weston Hospicecare Chief Executive Paul Winspear said, “We’re so grateful for the support of Danny and all others participating in the upcoming marathon to support our hospice.
The ongoing support and provision of care we offer to the community are only possible through our amazing supporters. We wish you all the best, and the team will be cheering him and all the other participants along the way.”
