Why has Abatec chosen Weston Hospicecare to support as their Charity of the Year for the second year running? “We have a long established relationship with Weston Hospice and it’s our charity of choice that we want to continue to support. The hospice plays such an important part in our local community and we want to continue to help in any way that we can.”
I know your whole team become involved in various fundraising events for the hospice, can you tell me what they have chosen to do and have they enjoyed their participation?
“Our teams have done various fundraising events over the years for the hospice from sponsored walks to donating Christmas presents and Easter eggs and it has given us all a sense of helping such an important cause. This year we are also the headline sponsors of the hospice World Record Spinathon attempt on Saturday 11 November!”
Do you feel that working with the hospice has benefits for your business?
“Yes certainly, we want to be able give back to our community and helping a local charity goes a long way towards that, furthermore it helps us take positive steps toward fulfilling our companies corporate & social responsibilities.”
Steve Fairhurst, Director of AGM and Secretary of The Hornets RFC has supported the hospice through his business, but also by encouraging huge involvement from The Hornets RFC. They have participated in many fundraising events for the hospice, raising over £9,000 in recent years, volunteering their time and donating the use of their ground to support us as well.
From fundraising by running the London Marathon to The 3 Peaks Challenge, with lots of volunteering from lots of colleagues, Balfour Beatty have been wonderful in supporting Weston Hospicecare!
Ben Whitwell, Creative Director, has been a supporter of the hospice for many years. Participating in events, providing sponsorship and living up to his slogan ‘The Friendliest Designers in the West’ he is the business behind a lot of our design work!
David Plaister Ltd in association with The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust and REVO, donated a brand-new car, worth £15,000 to Weston Hospicecare as top prize in a charity raffle. An amazing donation, raising £35,000 for the hospice!
As the headline sponsor for the extremely popular Strictly Fun Dancing event 2023, Gill Bute, owner of Gilda Cane and Cushions Limited, is one of our biggest supporters; mentoring our Business Challenge Enterprise with Weston College and donating prizes, she is a hugely appreciated local business proprietor.
Sponsors of the Moonlight Walk, raising almost £28.000 last year, The Grand Pier has been a generous supporter of the hospice for many years. They have raised a truly significant amount of funding, provided a whole range of fundraising opportunities and a variety of sponsorship. We are truly grateful for the ongoing relationship we have with them.
We are proud to have a wonderful relationship with Rich Park, Team Manager at Lidl GB Severn Beach and his colleagues. Their support for the hospice has been nothing short of immense and the success of many of our events has been down to their sponsorship and generosity.
Steve Harvey, Head of Business at Mercedes-Benz, Weston-super-Mare and colleagues have been huge supporters of the hospice. They have provided sponsorship, raffle prizes, participated in fundraising events and most memorably totally revamped the outside of our Well-Being Centre which was looking very tired!
PD and CL Building Services were the joint Headline Sponsors for the hospice Annual Charity Golf Day 2023. A new relationship for the hospice and one we are keen to develop with Paul and Shaun Dance, Directors.
Rob Vohra, Garden Centre Operations Manager and colleagues have been great supporters of the hospice. For the 2nd year we will launch our Christmas Tree Collection Service ‘Pines for Pounds’ at Sanders Garden Centre in December. They have also supplied the hospice with a wonderful amount of beautiful plants, shrubs, trees and compost to enhance our gardens and patient surroundings.
Richard has been a regulated financial adviser for over 20 years working with Santander and moving to St. James’s Place in 2019. Richard has used his knowledge and influence to secure much-appreciated grants from Trust Funds for the hospice.
Sponsors of The Men’s March every May, which raised over £22,000 this year; with donations towards many other fundraising events, we are proud to be supported by Thatchers Cider.
Towergate have been great supporters of the hospice for many years, sponsoring our Annual Charity
Golf Day for several years running with generous donations to be auctioned and team entries.
They have also given a donation through an affiliated Trust Fund.

We deliver expert care from our base, Jackson-Barstow House where there is a 10 bedroom inpatient unit (IPU), along with a day and wellbeing centre.
To complement our in-house services, we have a team of Community Nurse Specialists who care for patients and their families in their own homes throughout Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area
During 2021 Weston Hospicecare supported 2,591 local people, totally free of charge, through one of the most difficult times of their lives.
We support a service area of 170,000 residents throughout North Somerset and Sedgemoor.
