Students and staff at Weston College enjoyed a week of creative and crazy fundraising for Weston Hospicecare during their annual RAG Week.
Nerf guns, drones, rowing machines, a talent show and and dungeons and dragons all featured amid a varied and inventive range of activities designed to raise money for charity.
The college raised an amazing £5,900, a huge increase on 2018’s total of £3,600 – and that money will now be split between the hospice and young people’s mental health charity Young Minds.
Fundraising activities included sponsored runs and rows, cake sales, haircuts and fancy dress, while one group even managed to utilise a pet python.
Weston College principal and chief executive Dr Paul Phillips said: “The atmosphere across campus is always vibrant and full of positivity during RAG Week.
“The annual fundraising event is a fantastic opportunity for our learners to contribute to our community and raise aspirations by helping others.
“Yet again our staff and learners went above and beyond.”
Hospice fundraising manager Simon Angear visited the college’s Knightstone Road campus to help judge the Rag Week awards recognising the most innovative and committed fundraising, and to collect a cheque for the money raised.
He said: “Weston Hospicecare is once again enormously grateful to all staff and students at Weston College for their fabulous efforts on our behalf during RAG Week.
“We love hearing about all the different activities held to raise money, and we were bowled over by some of the creativity displayed in this year’s events.
“Community support is vital to the hospice, and this wonderful donation from Weston College will play a big part in helping us to continue to care for our patients across Weston-super-Mare and beyond.”
