Weston Hospicecare runs an iniative each summer where people, businesses and any other group can open a garden to raise money for the charity.
Money raised from optional entry fees and tea, coffee and cake sales provide the platform for people to enjoy afternoons relaxing in peaceful settings throughout the summer.
Last year, Open Gardens raised more than £10,000 with gardens well-supported in Blagdon, Hutton, Wrington, Burnham-on-Sea, Weare, East Huntspill, Worlebury, Weston Town Centre and at the hospice’s own garden on the Jackson-Barstow House site in Uphill.
Community fundraiser Sue Harding says: “If your garden is attractive and made special by your hard work, love and care, please think about opening it to raise funds for Weston Hospicecare.
“Last year we opened gardens across North Somerset and raise £10,046. A truly magnificent total, one which we hope to surpass in 2019 with it being the hospice’s 30th anniversary year.”
The hospice must raise funds to cover 80% of its annual costs through revenue generated in shops, at fundraising events and donations.
