Registration is now open for the 2018 Weston Hospicecare Midnight Beach Walk which will take place on Friday 7 September.
The Midnight Beach Walk is a women-only fundraising event in aid of Weston Hospicecare. Money raised will be used by the hospice to support the free services that are provided to patients in need of palliative care and families in need of spiritual and emotional support.
The gentle 5km route will start and finish at the Tropicana on Marine Parade and participants are able to register online before the deadline at midnight on 2 September.
Registration costs £15 per adult and £10 per child and as part of the sign-up, participants will receive a Midnight Beach Walk T-shirt, a candle bag and special gift upon the completion of the course.
Event organiser Kelsey Dehaney says it is a great opportunity for women to come together in remembrance, connect with one another and support a local charity.
She said: “In past years, there has been a wonderful atmosphere and I am sure that this year will be no different.
“Being a women’s event, there is a real bond between all the participants and it is fantastic to see women coming together and supporting a great local charity which serves, and depends on the support from, the community.”
The hospice only receives 20% of its funding from the NHS, meaning the remainder of its £4.2million-a-year costs have to be raised independently. Fundraising events such as the Midnight Beach Walk provide much-needed support; in 2017, 342 women signed up, raising an incredible £26,553.30 in aid of the hospice.
Kelsey says: “I’d encourage every woman who is thinking about taking part in the event to register as soon as they can. It is traditionally a great event for all parties and I am sure this year will be no different.
“Taking part in the Midnight Beach Walk won’t just mean you light up the night, you’ll become a light in the dark for the hundreds of people we help support on a daily basis.
“Whether you plan to take part in memory of a loved one, are keen to support a respected charity in your community, or you would simply like to enjoy a nice stroll along the beach with a friend, you’ll have a brilliant time.”
