A team made up of friends, family and the #NoExcuses community are getting ready to tackle Weston Hospicecare’s Moonlight Beach Walk.
The event takes place annually on Weston seafront and sees ladies light up the night as they take on a 5k or 10k route.
Traditionally hundreds of women team-up to walk for Weston Hospicecare.
Stacey Ford is one of many walking in memory of her best friend of Sarah Flourentzou Lucas.
She says “Sarah first got diagnosed about four and half years ago with breast cancer and she started her journey having chemotherapy in Weston General Hospital.
“Then Sarah continued to have more treatment and at last we all thought it was over. Then sadly Sarah found a lump in her neck it was back and Sarah had to start her journey again fighting and battling with cancer.
“She was always positive, and she never complained. She always asked how others were even if she was having a bad day, she would never let it show.
“Sarah had the support from her loving husband James and her two beautiful girls Nicole and Abby they were her rock.
“Sarah was super proud of her daughters with what they had to take on processing every day that their mum had cancer and that they knew they would be going on a journey with their mum to start treatment.
“I would call Sarah a superhero as she was strong kind caring soul, and she could do anything. She was a very special lady, and no one would, or will, replace her.”
Superhero Sarah has inspired hundreds of people to start exercising through the Flo & Co #NoExcuses community which she founded.
Stacey continued “Having started in 2016, it has grown to a whopping 405 team members to date.
“This is the impact that Sarah had on so many lives.”
“She would support team members even when going through treatment via in person or via social media while staying at Weston Hospicecare. She would always give you great advice she would do the head tilt when talking to you leaving you with a beautiful smile.
“The Moonlight Beach Walk will see family, friends and team members from Flo and Co #NoExcuses taking part to raise funds for Weston Hospicecare and in memory of Sarah.”
It costs £5.5million each year to run the hospice with just 20% of funding coming from the government.
Care given is done so free of charge. This means the hospice relies on its incredible supporters and volunteers to fund the remaining 80%.
