A Weston Hospicecare fundraiser has shaved half of his head and beard while growing the other side to raise funds for Weston Hospicecare.
The bold look came over the summer as Wayne Walker raised money. He did it in memory of his partner’s sister and mum who both were cared for by the charity.
Wayne’s stark look raised more than £2,000 for the hospice. He was supported by his partner, Jo Parker.
Jo has been running the online fundraiser with Wayne and their Facebook fundraising page says “As you know, Teresa (Jo’s sister), was diagnosed with cancer in June last year and passed away a month later.
“She didn’t even have a chance to fight. She was the life and soul of every party, always up for a laugh and life just isn’t the same without her.
“The hospice looked after her in her last days as they did her mum two and a half years ago.”
Wayne grew out half of his hair and beard for three months while the fundraiser was ongoing.
The hospice provide palliative care to people in Weston, North Somerset and Sedgemoor areas with a life-limiting condition. Find out more about Weston Hospicecare and how you can support us by vising – Weston Hospicecare | Supported by charitable gifts and donations |
As a charity, it relies heavily on supporters to provide enough funding and voluntary hours to run effectively each year.
It costs approximately £4.5million each year with just 20% funding from the government meaning 80% comes from supporters and customers.
Volunteers also play a crucial role and their time alone is worth at least £1.1million in cost saving.
