Six “fierce” women from Weston-super-Mare are gearing up to take on the 30 mile Mendip Challenge to raise money for Weston Hospicecare.
The challenge has been running for 31 years and has raised more than £400,000 for Weston Hospicecare since 2014.
The ladies will trek from Wells to Uphill. They’ll be following the West Mendip Way across the Mendip Hills as a team called The Walkie Talkies!
Esther, Laura, Leander, Louise, Claire and Charlotte are from Weston. They have used the training to bond as a team and to have fun preparing for a momentous fundraising challenge.
Esther says the group has “some fabulous, strong, fierce and independent women”. Meanwhile Louise says “It is good for our physical and mental health”.
Laura has had direct support from the hospice while her Grandma was cared for by the charity.
Charlotte adds “It’s going to be a fantastic day out with wonderful scenery and raising money for a charity who have helped so many families.”
The ladies have had incredible fun during the training period which has been filled with plenty of laughter.
The Mendip Challenge is Weston Hospicecare’s marquee fundraising event. It typically takes place in early June. In 2022, it will take place on Sunday 12 June.
The event is a 30, 20, 10 and 5 mile route across the Mendip Hills mainly following the West Mendip Way.
The 10 and 5 mile route will start and finish from Event Headquarters, Weston Cricket Club, while the 30 and 20 mile route will start from Wells and Draycott respectively. Coach travel is provided for the 30 and 20 mile routes.
